Being a guest at the Hahnemühle booth at Creativeworld Frankfurt this year gave me the chance to meet many wonderful (watercolour) artists like @rana18art. It reminded me how much I loved to create watercolour paintings as a teenager. My friend Shin-Young also used to draw and paint a lot and showed me her way to use watercolours. When I was looking through my older artworks the other day, I came across a pencil drawing of my husband I created in 2010. It reminded me how much progress I made until I redrew the portrait in 2014. Yesterday was a very special day: I was able to draw live for the first time in my life at the Hahnemühle booth at @creativeworld.frankfurt. Admittedly, this took me out of my comfort zone. Wenn man sowas schreiben möchte, wie ich es jetzt tue, ist es nicht so leicht, die richtigen Worte zu finden. Es ist denke ich allgemein bekannt, dass es sehr schwierig ist, als Künstler zu „überleben“. Es gibt sehr viele talentierte Menschen auf der Welt, nur die wenigsten sind erfolgreich. Ein Freund von mir hat einen guten Vergleich gefunden, es ist wie ein Lotteriegewinn. Leichter wird es, wenn man ein gutes Umfeld hat, Freunde, Familie, die einen unterstützen und irgendwann auch hoffentlich die ersten Fans. Auf diese Weise wird Kunst in die Welt hinausgetragen. Früher stand Mundpropaganda im Vordergrund, heute sind es hauptsächlich die sozialen Medien, die Presse und natürlich Ausstellungen. Bisher hatte ich in allen Bereichen Glück, besonders letztes Jahr durfte ich meine Bilder mit vielen Menschen teilen. Auch dieses Jahr beginnt sehr positiv. Am Samstag bin ich als Künstlerin zu Gast auf der Creativeworld und zeichne am Hahnemühle-Stand, was mich mit Stolz erfüllt und worauf ich mich schon sehr freue. Wie bereits angekündigt, wird es auch dieses Jahr Events geben, die sich in der Planung befinden. Eine von zwei internationalen Ausstellungen wurde nun abgesagt, leider auf eine sehr unehrbare Art und Weise, die mich schockiert hat. Diese negative Erfahrung zeigt, dass man sich nie sicher sein kann, selbst wenn man bereits vor Monaten eine Zusage in der Tasche hatte. Leider kann das Leben manchmal ein Kampf sein und ich habe das Gefühl, dass ehrliche Menschen zur bedrohten Art geworden sind. Was ich mit diesem sehr langen Text eigentlich sagen möchte: Vielen Dank an euch alle für jegliche Unterstützung und Achtung meiner Kunst. Man kann Ziele natürlich auch alleine bzw. ohne die Hilfe Anderer erreichen, aber ich persönlich finde es viel schöner, Erfolge mit seinen Mitmenschen zu teilen. Wer mich kennt, der weiß, dass ich sehr gerne lache und es liebe, mir Komiker anzusehen bzw. anzuhören. Einer, der mich schon mein ganzes Leben begleitet, ist Otto Waalkes. Bereits im Kindergarten hat meine Mama mir seine Version des Schlumpflieds und seine Sketche wie etwa den menschlichen Körper (Fans werden wissen, wovon ich rede! „Noch so ne‘ freche Bemerkung und du fliegst raus, Milz“, sage ich nur) auf MC aufgenommen. MC ist übrigens in dem Fall kein Rapper, sondern eine Musikkassette. Später habe ich mir dann natürlich CDs gekauft und diese rauf und runter gehört. Auch Ottos Filme liebe ich und natürlich die Synchronsprechrolle des Faultiers Sid in der Ice Age-Reihe. Otto kann alles, lustig sein, singen, musizieren, schauspielern und er ist auch ein großartiger Künstler. Sein Ottifant ist nur eine Kreation von vielen, die begeistern. Schaut euch z.B. seinen Instagram-Feed an. Dort findet ihr einige wunderbare Werke, darunter diverse Gemälde von ihm und seinem Freund Udo Lindenberg. 75 seiner Bilder findet ihr in dem Buch „Ganz große Kunst - 75 Meisterwärke“. Der 07.01.2020 hat mein Leben für immer verändert, an diesem Tag musste ich Abschied von meiner lieben Mama nehmen. Auch nach vier Jahren tut es weh und sie fehlt mir jeden Tag. Meine Mama war eine großartige Frau. Ich sage immer, dass sie eine Heldin ohne Umhang war. Jeder mochte sie und ihre gute Laune und Lebensfreude war richtig ansteckend. Ich habe sehr viele Dinge von ihr gelernt, auch was die Kreativität angeht. Meine Mama hat zwar nicht gezeichnet, aber sie hat Essen gezaubert wie ein Sternekoch, Handarbeit lag ihr sehr und sie hat wunderschöne Gedichte geschrieben. Zudem hat sie Musik geliebt, diese Liebe ist direkt auf mich übergegangen. Auch jetzt inspiriert sie mich täglich und ich weiß, dass sie mich auf meinem Weg begleitet. ❤️❤️❤️

To create a realistic looking portrait you need many different colours which are built up in layers to get the final result. Every reference photo can be divided in sections, the hair, the face, fabric etc. I only do this in my mind while working on my drawing and I am analysing the colour palette of each section, moving from one to the next. For my current commission I am using Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. There is one episode that always makes me laugh when I watch my favourite tv show „Little House on the Prairie“. One of the characters, Mr. Edwards, asks his adopted son John, who wants to be a professional writer, if he really wants to wake up in the morning and go to work with only a pencil. It may seem ridiculous for some people and of course it is not easy to become successful in a creative job. It is hard work and there are many talented people, who never achieve their aims, even if they work almost 24/7. Pencils have always been a part of my life. As soon as I could walk and talk I discovered my love for them. They are an extension of my hands and a bridge from my heart to the paper I work on. Every stroke has a meaning and is important for the end result. My current project consists of thousands and thousands of strokes and slowly but surely the piece of art is coming alive. I am already proud, not only of the result, but of myself. This project is the biggest challenge so far, it pushes me to my limits and beyond. Nethertheless I am enjoying every moment of it. On Saturday, at the Frankfurt Book Fair, I was lucky to hold a very special edition in my hands, the photo book „H is for Hemp“ by Maren Krings which is made of hemp & cotton residues. The paper has been exclusively designed for this limited edition. It is the world’s first printing paper made of Hemp for digital book printing. Gestern habe ich die Frankfurter Buchmesse besucht, die dieses Jahr ihr 75. Jubiläum feiert. Ich konnte viele Eindrücke sammeln und auch die eine oder andere Idee für neue Projekte ist entstanden. Außerdem hatte ich das Glück, dass ich Filmemacher und Sichtbarkeitsexperte Felix Meinhardt aus München wiedersehen konnte. Er ist dieses Jahr mit einem Stand vertreten und stellt unter anderem sein Buch „Mut zur Heldenreise“ vor. I am always saying that my drawings are like children, each special and unique in their own way. Now one of them, my „Back to the Future“ drawing, has found a new home. I will never forget the moment I could present it to Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox in London back in 2015 and got their positive feedback on my art. Ernst Leitz Museum Wetzlar Part II After visiting the inspiring exhibition of British portrait and fashion photographer Rankin we also had a look at the Ernst Leitz museum. You could not only learn a lot, but also take some fun pictures at different stations, including a hall of mirrors and a professional photo station with a wind machine. Back home after a thrilling trip to the Photopia Hamburg. It was a spectacular event with so many impressions to absorb. It was also another milestone for my career as paper manufacturer Hahnemühle showcased my Arnold Schwarzenegger artwork. The drawing was turned into a certified reproduction. The archival quality paper utilised is Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Pearl, acid free, 100 % cotton, 320 gsm, natural white, pearl-gloss coating. I also had the pleasure to meet former All-American and Dallas Cowboys Pro NFL defensive end Jabari Fletcher and creative director Thomas Hayo who became known as a juror on the casting show Germany’s Next Topmodel.
